Date On a Clothesline
Previously, I posted Finian's playful red union suit dancing with Tommy Steele and Petula Clark in the colorful musical, Finian's Rainbow.
Back in February 2023, I featured another famous face, the unparalleled Joan Blondell. It was in 1934, another Warner Bros film. Back then, she and her laundry were featured in black and white, not in color like the clothesline laundry in Finian's Rainbow. "Living color" was a few years away.
In this feature film, Miss Blondell was courted by first one union suit that was hanging out on her laundromat clothesline. She sang and promenated out behind her business after washing numerous customers' long underwear. (What is it about Warner Bros movies and union suits?!?!)

But soon, a new "Suit-er" reaches out to her in friendly, loving advances!

...The long underwear snaps off the clothesline. She and her new union suit beau stride away...
But what's this? Other union suits are quick to show their attention to the maiden. How much they love and appreciate her warm embrace, the one who so tenderly washed them ardently clean!

Finian's Rainbow Pales - Part Two: A Clothesline Whirl
When Ireland's most famous leprechaun falls in love with his nemises' daughter, can a dance number be far behind? This 1968 Warner Bros - Seven Arts film stars Og (Tommy Steele) and Sharon McLonergan (Petula Clark) who cut the grass in the classic musical, Finian's Rainbow. Oh yeah, their dance includes Finian's playful red union suit!

The Color of Finian's Rainbow pales compared to his bright Red Flannels!
Finian foregoes his britches for a leprechaun by the name of Og in the 1968 Warner Bros - Seven Arts film, Finian's Rainbow, starring Fred Astaire with Tommy Steele as Og, the Leprechaun, and Petula Clark as Finian's daughter! Francis Ford Coppola directed this late sixties musical.
Og followed Finian from Ireland all the way to America to fetch back his "pot 'o gold" which Finian had stolen. When he caught up to Finian, the two argued over the misdead, deep in the forest as they shared a jug of ale. Og admitted, tearfully, that he was no longer a wee little guy, but rather had grown to man size. The taking of the post of gold was causing all number of mishaps to Og and the leprchauns he had left behind in Ireland! What would happen next?

In fact, the leprechaun had grown so large his clothes no longer fit.
He was growing out of his trousers!!

Before Finian's very eyes, Og's trousers flew right off his legs!
Would his coat, shirt, socks and shoes be next?

Just then Finian heard his daughter shouting for him. The two men panicked. Og could not be caught without his trousers in front of the young damsel. Finian exuberantly stepped in front of Og in an attempt to hide him from the eyes of the young beauty.
Then he stripped out of his own trousers, revealing the long red flannel underwear he wore just like all good Irishmen wear, and handed them over for Og to pull on.
