The Saga Continues...Girl Gets Boy, Part II

On their late night, wedding night, Luke and Nellie are all set for, well, what any newly wed couple would do on their first night as husband and wife, when they are interrupted by, horrors, the bride's mom and dad!

Mr. and Mrs. Oleson had learned from their son, Willie, that Nellie had driven off with her boyfriend, Luke, in the family's buckboard. The Olesons joined up with Luke's pa, Adam, and the kids' school teacher, Eva, (yes, it's complicated), and had raced to the nearest town, guessing that's to where the couple had absconded.

After questioning a very sleepy local justice of the peace, the foursome split up to search for their kids before anything unfathonable (to the parents anyway) could happen. The Olesons found the girl and boy in their "honeymoon suite!" at the local hotel. And just in time!

Murder was on the mind of Harriett Oleson. She demanded her husband shoot the scoudrel who was just about to take advantage of her precious daughter. Poor Luke was about to meet his maker.

Mr. Oleson was not about to shoot an unarmed kid, standing there in just his underwear. So, Mrs. Oleson took matters into her own hands, grabbing the shotgun her husband was carrying, and ca-blooey:  Fast-thinking and fair-minded Mr. Oleson grabbed the shotgun from his wife as it fired, causing the gun to blow a hole in the ceiling.

Seizing his chance to escape in the confusion, Luke ducked under Nellie's parents...

...and our the door he ran for his life clad only his union suit. The boy scurried out of the hotel and onto main street...

...just as his pa and school teacher arrived on the scene.

Adam Sims grabbed ahold of his young boy, demanding, "Son, what in heavens name are you doing running around in your underdrawers?!"

Luke tried to explain to his pa, that the Oleson's were trying to kill him.

But Adam was having none of that. He forced the boy back up the steps and into the hotel to face the music. Nevermind, he was still in his long underwear!

Deciding an annulment to the marriage was a better plan than killing the young groom, the parents agreed to get the youngsters dressed and took them back to the justice of the peace, putting an end to their short-lived matrimony.

In the end, the Nellie and Luke's marriage certificate was torn up and Adam and Eva were then married themselves (I told you it was complicated).

Thanks again to NBC Peacock, various streaming services and, of course to Retro Jeff of Illinois for this favored entry to Union Suit Fans in the Limelight... Chris

                The Saga Continues...Girl Gets Boy

But Can She Keep Him?! Mama might have something to say about that!

As in my previous postings where Mabel, the Lovelorn Laundress, as well as the girls in Li'l Abner, chased after the boys of their dreams, so it went for Nellie Oleson in the popular 1970's-80's NBC television show, Little House On the Prairie, Episode 12 in Season 4, "Here Come the Brides." When the new boy in town arrived for the first day of school in a wagon driven by his pa, Nellie Oleson immediately set her sites on him. She very soon introduced herself while admonishing Laura Ingalls to not be so forward when meeting a boy. But it was she who had set her mind in capturing the lad.

Nellie soon learned his name was Luke Sims. She first complimented him on his baseball prowess which he seemed to appreciate. But then,he politely turned her down when she offered him candy from her daddy's store. Later though, he accepted her invitation to join her family for dinner. When he arrived, Nellie's mama, Harriet Oleson was horrified to think her daughter had invited a country bumpkin for dinner, the son of a pig farmer, no less. Luke arrived barefoot and wearing only old overalls over his faded red union suit. His table manners ran counter to everything she had taught her daughter and young son, Willie. Mrs. Oleson was indignant and rude to the boy. Upon Luke leaving that evening, she told Nellie she was never to go near that clodhopper again. Her daughter deserved better than what this boy could offer.

But, Nellie had other ideas and soon she and Luke began seeing each other often. Before long, they fell deeply in love. The young couple planned to elope at their first opportunity, and so they did. They traveled secretly to a nearby town, awakened a justice of the peace from a sound sleep and convinced him to marry them that very night. He gave them a rather abrupt wedding ceremony with only his sleepy wife as a witness.

Duly married, the couple soon obtained a hotel room to, presumably, consumate their marriage. The kids were nervous, each awaiting the other to undress for bed behind a screen. Millie first, changing into her nightgown, robe and cap:

Next, Luke's turn to get ready for bed as Millie waits patiently but apprehensively:

First, off come his overalls, then his shirt:

Soon, Luke peers out the side of the screen wearing nothing but his union suit:

Bravely, he steps out to meet his newly wed partner
in his long underwear, ready to jump into bed!

An anxious boy and girl meet to embrace:

But, what's this?!  Interrupted!!

To Be Continued....
