Coming Soon: Escanaba in da Moonlight.

My recent stint in the Canadian cabin with buddies of mine (See my posting in
Union Suit Fan) reminded me alot of this great movie (originally in theaters) of Jeff Daniels and the fellows cavorting around their cabin (and outside) in their union suits on a deer hunt. They gathered in Michigan's Upper Peninsula; we held court up in Canada. I just emailed my very good friend, Joe of NYC, that me and my pals were just like the men in this movie, running around the cabin in our long underwear but with less farting. LOL.  I soon hope to
share my take with you of the fabulous and entertaining film, Escanaba in Da Moonlight.. Chris

Added November 10, 2022:  Chris, not long ago I watched The Westerner, a TV show back in the 1960's on Grit. The one I saw was called "Line Shack" or something like that. It had Robert Culp and Brian Keith in it. It was about a bunch of men holed up in a cabin playing cards and drinking whiskey in only their union suits. Drinking through the night, the inebriated men got on each others nerves. So the ending had a shootout after one of them strapped on a six-shooter over his long white underwear like those you are wearing, then stepped outside and had it out with Brian Keith.

That show reminded me of you and your friends at your cabin wearing only your union suits.*  Hope you boys didn't get on each others nerves and took a shot at each other! Take a look at that show. It was pretty entertaining... Chase (Monroe, Louisiana)

Added October 26, 2022: Several of you have asked how many of us were staying up in the Canadian cabin, including Joe of NYC who emailed:

You and your buddies were in a cabin. Were you the only one who wore a union suit or the only one, in the true John Payne* spirit, who was brave and bold enough to be photographed?

Seth Takes in Some Fresh Morning Air
Three of us wore union suits and one hold-out wore his inferior two-piece long johns. (True Idahoers wear union suits, including two of my three boys!) A few iphone photos were taken of us sitting around drinking beer and playing cards in our long underwear in the evenings, and again in the morning, drinking coffee. Seth takes a breather outside. I guess Joe's indication of me being in the "John Payne* spirit is correct," just like so many of you who send in photos of yourselves in your union suits for posting.

If memory serves, three of the deer hunters in Escanaba in Da Moonlight ran around in their white and red union suits and one, the game warden, was shown in his boxer shorts and an A-shirt. The dad of the brothers was probably wearing a union suit too but always shown wearing clothes...Chris

*John Payne as Vint Bonner in the old television western, The Restless Gun, posted in Union Suit Fan February 6, 2020. The Episode was called "The Englishman."

Here's my answer to the burning question, "Just what do the infamous Ghostbusters wear under their uniforms when battling oozing, red slime??!!" (This Trivia follow up is from my April 16, 2022 posting.)

When word reaches Doctors Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Winston (Ernie Hudson) and Spengler (Harold Ramis) that slime has proliferated in the storm sewer of the big apple, the men waste no time in investigating. When one falls in to the goo, the others slip in themselves! All for one and one for all...

Exhausted and barely alive, the men are finally able to pull themselves out and get on their feet with their secret revealed in Columbia Picture's 1989 sequel, Ghostbusters II...

They wear Union Suits under their uniforms!

As luck would have it, they have landed outside of the Manhattan Museum of Art where Dr. Venkman (Bill Murray) is having dinner at a fund-raiser. They have to warn him! So, inside they go, no worry they are slimed and in their long underwear...

But, how dare them barging in on such a hoity-toity affair in their Union Suits, messing up the place and shocking NY's high society! The police arrive to take them away!

They manage to get an audience with the mayor of New York and try to warn him of the impending crisis!

The mayor thinks they are out of their minds, it's late and, after much discussion, he dismisses them!

But wait, the GhostBusters are not to be deterred, their work is just beginning, plans must be made:

Find GhostBusters II on DVD's or streaming for a look at this fun and entertaining film.

Marshal Micah Torrance in His Cups

         By Guest Contributor, Ian Sanderson

One of the most poignant episodes of The Rifleman in Season 3, Episode 22, centered around the town marshal, Micah Torrance played by Paul Fix, a renown stage, movie and television actor. The story was unlike any that viewers had seen of the dependable and gentle lawman.

Mark McCain first noticed the trouble man one morning when he visited the marshal in his office. Micah was very short with the boy and quite irritable. Soon after, he snapped at Lucas McCain, his best friend. In an earlier episode when Micah first met Lucas, it was established that he was one of the best lawmen in the territory. But lost his position due to alcoholism. Lucas gave the luckless man a job on this ranch. Soon, Micah was permitted to become marshal of North Fork. Micah's haunting past soon crept up on him.

In a testy scene, Micah accused Lucas of undermining his work as town marshal, always stepping in instead of allowing him to do his job. He gave his badge back to Lucas, grabs two bottles of whiskey from the local bar keep, and holed up in an apartment.

When Lucas goes to visit, he can not believe how far his best friend has regressed. He finds the fallen hero, drunk, unshaven and undressed, wearing nothing but his long underwear.

Enough chit-chat, Micah turns away from Lucas and staggers over to his bed.

Standing back up and thirsty for drink, Micah unsteadily heads for his bottle again:

Lucas is beside himself, unable to help the hapless man and left. Later that night, like Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, Micah laying on the bed in his union suit, was visited by a ghost like figure from his past.

Without revealing anymore of this story, Chris, I would encourage your viewers to watch this engrossing ABC episode on various choices of streaming services... Ian

Ian: I agree. Thanks very much again for your insightful summary of this captivating story. All the best, Chris
