 Undressed Under Duress, Season Two

Beginning last February, I featured ten “Undressed Under Duress” postings featuring ill-disposed actors in movies and tv shows undressed down to their union suit underwear, some threatened at gun-point. This year, there's more. The pint-sized in Hollywood entertainment are not immune to duress.

Some weeks ago, I received an email from fifteen year old Josh who resides in Vermont. Josh, a movie fan and union suit wearer, had with his dad viewed most of the movies featured in my Season One, Undressed Under Duress. Josh wrote me of another “stressful” movie he had seen. He intoned, “I know of another one called Seven Alone we watched where a boy about my age has all his clothes stolen by an Indian one night and was left in his long johns. This would be stresful to (sic). I wonder if you could do this one in your blog.” I promised Josh, I would do just that. And, so Undressed Under Duress, Season Two, begins today.

You may remember my September 13, 2019 posting of young Dutch in the film “Shoot Out” starring Gregory Peck. The boy was awakened late one night when gunfighters barged into his mama's home where she had given refuge to a man and his daughter. The gunman forced Dutch at gunpoint to climb out of bed in his union suit and trudge out into a pouring rain to take care of their horses. He'd better be quick about it or his mama and her guests would be held responsible. As we kickoff a new season of Undressed Under Duress, this previous posting bears repeating. The film is one of my all time favorites. (We'll get to Josh's request in Part II of this new season):

Shoot Out is a 1971 Universal western movie directed by Henry Hathaway and starring the incomparable Gregory Peck. Peck plays Clay Lomax, a rehabilitated bank robber. The film adaptation was from the 1930 novel, “The Lone Cowboy,” written by Will James.

The story: upon Lomax completing a seven year prison sentence for bank robbery, he is set free. The warden is certain he'll be back, however. Lomax walks out of prison and goes on a quest seeking the partner who had betrayed him during the heist. But soon he is burdened with a young orphan girl who he feels obligated to look after. She, unwillingly at first, tags along on his journey. When Lomax and the girl happen upon a farm house occupied by a widow, Juliana Farrell, and her son, Dutch, they take refuge with the intent of waiting out an intense rain storm. After supper, the two kids are put to bed while the adults proceed to get acquainted. Both lonely, they seemingly fall for each other.

But late that night a gang bursts in on them with ill intent. The gang leader holds them at gunpoint and demands to know who else is in the cabin.

He kicks in the door of the boy's bedroom and orders him out. Young Dutch rouses himself from bed in his union suit and joins his mama, Lomax and the small girl.

Dutch is told to go out and take care of the mens' horses. His mother is threatened with sure death if the boy does not do exactly as told. Not given a chance to pull on this clothes, Dutch puts on a slicker over his long underwear, grabs his boots...

...and hurries out the door into the night...

Check out the rest of this film to find out how Dutch and the others fair against the bad guys! ... Chris

  2. I remember seeing this movie the first time when I was a young kid. It's about the time I began wearing union suits. And I've seen this film two or three time since. It's a classic with my favorite actor, Gregory Peck.... Max (Topeka, KS)
