Another Trivia Follow-Up from My April 16, 2022 Posting
Silly Zilly
Zilly is a World War I pilot and somewhat of a reluctant follower of flight leader, Dick Dastardly, in the 1969 Hanna-Barbera Saturday morning cartoon show, Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines. The four man crew (one of which is a snickering canine) has adventures as members of the Vulture Squad. They repeatedly attempt, and fail, to catch Yankee Doodle Pigeon who is always trying to get messages through to the enemy.
Like most pilots of his era, Zilly wears long, one-piece underwear under his clothes. Zilly, being the coward that he is, always tries to make himself scarce when the going gets tough by slipping downward into and out of his yellow flight suit, sneaking off in just his union suit.
Take these scenes for example:
No worries, Dastardly sends Muttley to encourage Zilly back into his plane to complete the mission. Ouch!!
Thanks to Hanna-Barbera for yester years' terrific cartoon series which lasted too short of a time. But you and your kids can follow Zilly and the rest in their adventures on You-Tube and the Dailymotion.
More Silly Zilly coming soon in future postings on Union Suit Fans in the Limelight. Watch for them.
Chris: I looked this up right away on Dailymotion, set the kids down, watched and enjoyed. It is really a fun and entertaining cartoon show. I'm not as nervous as Zilly, but like him I wear white union suits a good deal of the time. One of my boys enjoys wearing his union suit and thought it funny Zilly wears one too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for bringing this one to our attentions. Regards, Tyler of Tulsa
Looks like Zilly got the point after being sticked right in his dropseat butt flap…LOL. Brendon (Wisconsin)
ReplyDeleteLuckily, after being poked in the butt, Zilly did not come shooting out of his union suit and back into the cockpit…Joshua
