Movie Trivia: Suspendered
In my most recent postings, I featured Mabel, the Lovelorn Laundress, who turned the tables on the familiar movie plot: "Boy Gets Girl, Boy Loses Girl, Boy Gets Girl Back." That is, Mable did the getting, the losing and the getting back. Except it wasn't the boy she got back, it was only his union suit.
Another movie followed Mabel's reversal of the old adage. In this film, the girl gets the boy by pursuing him and eventually getting him by grabbing on to his suspenders:
Unfortunately for her, she accidently dislodges the suspenders
holding up his britches and losing her grip, goes tumbling backwards!
So her "getting the boy" was short lived! But she did get his suspenders.
The boy miraculously lands on his feet, but oops !!
Without suspenders, his britches go plummeting down to his ankles,
revealing his long red underwear:
The boy can't believe he's been inadvertently pantsed!
He realizes he can't run away with his britches down.
So moments later, he pulls 'em up...
...secures them and, with a wave of his hand, runs off. Meanwhile, the girl can only look on in dismay from the ground!
"Girl Loses Boy" after Boy Loses Pants" Will she ever get him back?
So, put on your thinking caps and come up with answers to Movie Trivia.

Watch for additional scenes from this classic coming soon! .... Chris
Chris: if memory serves, this is from a movie called ‘Lil Amber based on the comic strip by Al Capp. I think it came out in the early 1960’s. I think the girl made another grab at the boy, ripping all his clothes off but he got away from her again clad only in his red union suit…. Paul - Castle Rock, Colorado
ReplyDeleteoops! I meant Abner... Amber was the girl trying to catch him....Paul (again)
DeleteChris: I agree with Paul except I believe the movie was released in late 1959 after it had played in theaters for a couple of years. The company that produced this movie was Paramount Pictures. The girl did get the boy back but at first ended up with only his clothes, then later during the Sadie Hawkins Day race, was shown disgustedly holding on to only his red union suit, but caught him finally when he had been reduced to wearing just a flour sack. There were some really good additional union suit scenes, one right at the very beginning of this movie and another, later in the race, when the girl grabs at the boy but comes away with only his shirt and pants. He jumps up and runs into the cornfield wearing on his long red underwear...Scott, Scottsdale.
ReplyDeleteChris: I remember this movie so well. When my brother and I were aged 9 and 13 we laughed til we cried when that kid lost his pants and we saw his long red underwear. What's funnier than seeing a guy's pants fall down! ... Loren / Tulsa, OK
ReplyDeleteI agree with Loren, I loved this movie, albeit, rerun on TV not at theatre, as a boy and thought the scenes of the guy running around in his red union suit particularly funny. May have been when I decided I had to have a union suit to wear myself! .... Max, Topeka KS
