Union Suit Fans!
Samuel of Boston emailed me this note:
"Chris: did you know in the same year (1934) that Warner Bros. Pictures came out with the movie, Dames, featuring the song "Girl with the Ironing Board" performed by Joan Blondell, the movie studio distributed a Merrie Melodies cartoon titled, "The Girl at the Ironing Board." It's true. This cartoon is almost as entertaining as the film. Regards, Samuel of Boston"So taking Samuel's suggestion to heart on your behalf, I looked up that featured cartoon and sure enough it not only exists, it's darn entertaining and suitable for all audiences. It made me wonder if the cartoon version was distributed primarily to advertise the actual film which I posted here in Union Suit Fans in the Limelight back in February. The cartoon version differed from the "Love Lorn" union suit version in that... well, look for yourself. Here are some clips of long underwear fun and excitement!
But soon, the laundry workers go home for the night.
Most of the remainder of the cartoon happens
later when the laundry closes.
You've never seen so much carrying on by Union Suits!
Do they ever come to life and have fun.
Take this scrappy fellow for example:
And the audience made up mostly of underwear and socks
goes wild at the union suit skater's olypian contribution!
The "Dancing Drawers" are next to perform
with rear buttoned flaps that can keep time to the beat:
Can your rear escape hatches do this?!...
Now that's what I call good, clean family entertainment!
of the other laundered underwear. You earned it!
But, oh know! Trouble in Union Suit Land looms
just aroung the corner when Villain Vinney
drops off his laundry....
To be continued...
And, a heartfelt thanks once again to Warner Bros. Pictures who more than any other movie studio brings out the best in Union Suit humor most often.
