From Bloomers to Combinations, Part 2
Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines Or How I Flew from London to Paris in 25 Hours and 11 Minutes
The tables turn as Orvil Newton, the American Cowboy, loses his britches just as his new lady friend lost her skirt (see Part 1, posted September 12, 2023). Here's how it happened.Having been formally introduced and due to her seeking an adventure in flying, heiress Patricia Rawnsley, daughter of Lord Rawnsley, accepts Orvil's offer to take her up in his flying machine for a bird's eyeview of the airstrip and England's surrounding countryside. Orvil, in fact, allows her to take the contol during that flight with his direction.
But as luck would have it, Orvil's craft breaks a wing strut, threatening to crash the couple soon after take off! To avoid becoming a casualty for just attempting to impress a beautiful woman, Orvil leaves control to his beauty...
...and wing-walks out to the broken strut, reaching it and holding tightly in place, while he unbuckled his belt for a make-shift solution.
His union suit is in full display to the maiden he had been trying to impress as well as the entire world below! Just as the strut was secured with his belt, Orvil slips and nearly falls from his craft!
Having regained his balance, Orvil safeley makes his way back to Patricia and prepares, sans britches, to take back control for an attempt to land safely...
Thanks for bringing back some great childhood memories, Chris. I hadn't thought about this great movie in decades, and definitely did not remember the union suit scene. It kind of brings new meaning to "air strip". ------------ Retro Jeff in Illinois
